A construction company wants to automate quantity determination from IFC models, and thinkBIC accompanies the process from the initial idea to the productive AI solution.
A general contractor wants to speed up quantity determination from IFC models, as the manual effort involved is high and prone to errors. In a workshop with thinkBIC, the goal is defined: an AI solution that automatically extracts quantities from digital models.
The standard documents available in the company are systematically reviewed and analyzed. The findings are then directly incorporated into the development process. At the same time, the existing database is cleaned up.
Existing IFC models and data are checked for completeness, standard references, and quantity specifications. From this, thinkBIC develops an AI module that accurately answers questions such as “How many steel supports does the ground floor have?” The system combines LLMs with defined sets of rules.
Following successful pilot runs, the solution is seamlessly integrated into the existing process and enables automated output of quantity results. The data flows directly into subsequent processes, such as purchasing, and can now be used in a standardized manner.
AI is firmly established in everyday planning and is continuously expanded, e.g., to include new standard requirements. Its performance is monitored, and training courses ensure the transfer of know-how within the team. In this way, the solution and the company develop simultaneously and sustainibly.

We take common formats such as DOC, PDF, IFC, and PNG into account and create a robust foundation through clean data management. Development takes place in collaboration with the customer, in an agile and iterative manner, with short coordination meetings and a clear technical focus.
Prototyping is followed by integration into your existing processes. We scale the solution, provide interfaces to your systems (ERP, BIM, IoT, etc.) and prepare the AI for live operation, including performance checks, user guidance and data pipeline.
Even after implementation, AI must continue to learn. We help you to operate your AI productively in everyday use, continuously improve it, and develop new use cases. Monitoring, regular model adjustments, and performance reviews are an integral part of the concept.
